My quirky semi-finished-bedroom

Hi! I have been working hard on my bedroom this past weekend! It's still not finished, but it has come a long way! Like an idiot, I forgot to take the before picture! Whats wrong with me?? BUT at least you get to see how I've been working on it along the way. Sunday, I decided to rearrange our room, the room is not very large, and having a dresser, a chest, and two side tables took up a lot of space! I thought, how can I make it seem a little bigger? Hopefully Im doing it the right way! Im keeping it light and airy.
So, here's a sneak peak into my romantical chic airy bedroom :)
excuse the red clothing on the end of the bed, I just wanted to show the bed pointed towards the window. (which will be getting curtains soon)

My awesome sheets and pillows! Everyone needs to shop at Ross and Marshalls! :)
I got my lamps for $20 each, from Marshall's! Those purple pillows, $8, from Ross!
I "splurged" on my sheets, and went to Target! I have baskets on the shelves of our night stands, $7, Ross. I got my night stands from a thrift store, they were $30 each. I thought of painting them, I don't know yet, but it would be fun!
My favorite little print. Its so fun and quirky!! My husband surprised me with it, and he got it from Earth Bound! By the way, they have the best sales on canvas'.
I added some fauxers (faux flowers, I think I just made that word up) to my lavender vase.
Here's the semi-finished top of my dresser! The vase I got from a garage sale, and the flowers were $7 from Marshalls. The boxes, that hold knick-knacks, are from my Fossil watches. I love to decorate and show off some of my favorite books, the bottom one is "The Count of Monte' Cristo". Sigh! great book.
I have two ceramic owls, I bought one from Hobby Lobby, and the other was given to me for Christmas. I decided they would be perfect book ends!

My husband also surprised me with this birdcage, from Earth Bound! I decided to put candles inside, and a little fabric that matches the sheets on my bed! I got three, LED, candles for $6, from Ross. The fabric was actually the little pouch that held my sheets from Target!

Ta-da! The top of our little chest! Oh, and I painted that little painting.

So, that's my room so far. I did just buy three little, black, mirrors to put above my bed. Since we don't have a head board yet. I think it will look super cute. BTW- I got the mirrors from Marshalls, all three for $9! I love myself a good deal. Who doesn't? I can't wait to keep posting about my little house. I hope you all are enjoying the little tour. xoBritney

Quirky Note

I just wanted to write a quick note, so anybody who actually reads this knows I haven't died!!

Im very much alive.

Im working on painting my kitchen chairs a bright green color! Its taking awhile, but I cannot wait to blog about them! They are going to be super cute, and I can not wait to have that pop of color in my kitchen.
Speaking of my kitchen, the newlywed cook book I have been cooking out of has been put on hold! Me and the love of my life have decided to eat as healthy as possible!! Thankfully, my bestest bud Whitney, just bought me an awesome cook book for healthy eaters! So, I will be cooking out of that! Im making some chicken fajita burrito's tonight.

Something I'm ridiculously excited about is DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME! Whaaaaat! Im so ecstatic about warmer weather and longer days! It means more outside time! I love the way the sunshine feels, and the smell in the air, and breaking out my flip-flops every single day. It just makes me so happy. sigh.

Well, anyways, I will be blogging soon on dinner tonight, the shelf I just put up, my romantic/chic bedroom, and hopefully my awesome chairs! Check back soon!! xo Britney

Quirky time out!

So, I've missed a couple Fridays! We (me and my hubby) went to Dallas, and I've just been super busy!

BUT- I do have a little recipe to share! It turned out delicious! Key words, turned out! I had so much trouble making this! My husband called me, on my way home from work, to let me know we were going to have company that night! I started to freak out! The bathroom needed to be cleaned, the living room needed a quick pick up, the dishes were in need of some attention! AND I needed to cook! My husband was at work himself, or I would have had some help! Ugh!
(stressing just thinking about it)
I cleaned the bathroom, the living room, and kitchen in record time! (ok maybe I hid somethings in a drawer/our bedroom and shut the door) I had decided to cook some home made cheesy mac 'n cheese. The recipe looked simple enough, the day before, when I had barely read over it. So,I started cooking, and I didn't even look at directions! I just started eyeing things, a pinch here, a tablespoon there. I got to the part about sautéing onions, and I completely burnt them! Filling up the house with smoke! I have the fans on full blast, the windows opened, thinking these people I don't even know are going to be here any minute, and Im going to greet them with house full of make-your-eyes-water smoke!! Not to mention, I still had my comfy work clothes on! I was a frazzled mess I tell you! After I burnt the onions, I decided to actually look at the recipe, and boy did things start to work out in my favor! My husband finally got home, and he let me know his friend couldn't make it, I was a little bummed, since I went through all that work, but also sighed a great big huge gigantic sigh of relief, the house was still smokey, and my make up was not on. Me and hubby got to enjoy a delicious meal to ourselves and he did the clean up, which is always a plus! I also made stuffed salmon to go with our amazing macaroni! Yum!
Its never dull in my quirky life! Just FYI the mac 'n cheese recipe can be found in the Newlywed Kitchen cook book, and the stuffed salmon, from SAM's!

Quirky Ideas

Today, while at work, I started thinking (uh oh!) of all the things I want to do! Nothing too extreme, just some fun things I've been wanting to do. I decided to write a list, everyone loves lists. This is my "27 before 28".
This isn't a "must do" list, but it is things I would like to accomplish before my 28th birthday next year! I don't think Im going to type out all of my list right now, but next year, on my birthday I'll type it out, and whether or not I can check it off!

In other news, I have been trying to be "Mrs. Crafty-pants" over here. (I just used MRS, cuz Im a married woman now sigh) I decided to make myself a banner. I have two blank walls by my dining room table, and It was driving me crazy not having anything there! So, here's how I did it:

First, I bought scrap book paper, and then I made a template, about 7 inches across, and 9 inches tall.

I then used that to cut them out, and proceeded to thread a piece of yarn through

and this is what I ended up with!

Easy!!

I made two! :)

Now, Im left with a blank wall on the opposite side! I can't live with that. I found these, and printed them out. I went to the Dollar Tree, and bought some black simple frames, and ta da!! I have decor for just $3! Can't beat that with a stick! :)

I feel like it needs something else, but I haven't thought of anything yet! When I do, you better believe I'll blog about it!

I was feeling super crafty, and decided to paint my kitchen chairs! They aren't finished yet, we (I enlisted my hubby's help) are still trying to sand them down! Im new to this, and I didn't realize what I got myself into! Im so excited about the finish product though!

I love this color.
My chairs. before.
Sanded, but not complete.

Well, I hear Alex (my labradoodle) in the trash! I better get going!!

Quirky breakfast for lunch

Hi there! Its that time again, time to cook something out of my wonderful newlywed cookbook! For today I decided to do breakfast for dinner, well more like a late lunch, or early supper. I think Im going to call it sunch, or lupper. My husband was working nights, so that means he slept until it was time to eat! Breakfast was just a perfect idea. For my lupper (yes I chose lupper) I decided to make us Topsy Turvy Apple French Toast! This dish was so fun to make! It smelled delicious while I made it too! I had a hard time keeping the apples from my mouth once I poured all the cinnamon on top!

To make this yummy dish you'll need: 4 tblsp spoons butter, 2 Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, sliced), 1/4 cup dark brown sugar, 1 tblsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp kosher salt, 1/4 cup heavy cream, 3 large eggs, 3/4 cup whole milk, 1 tblsp vanilla extract, large (texas style) bread, 1/4 cup raisins, and 1/4 cup chopped walnuts.
NOW that thats out of the way, I preheated the oven to 350 degrees, and greased a 9 inch pan, then in a skillet I melted that butter, and put those delicious apples in the skillet, added the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and cream. I cooked it until the apples were soft, and delicious and I ate them! haha BUT not all of them, the rest I placed evenly in the pan, and poured any mixture left on top of the apples. In a large bowl I stirred together the eggs, milk, and vanilla. I soaked the bread and then placed them on top of the apples. I then sprinkled the raisins, and walnuts and placed it in the oven for about 35 minutes. Once it was ready, I "topsy turvy'd" them into another dish, so that the apples were on top! I placed whip cream on top, sprinkled some cinnamon/sugar (so it looked pretty) and I also fixed us up some turkey bacon, and you know, some chocolate milk!!

P.S  I did have a problem with the bread, it was a little too soggy for my taste, and I really didn't care much for the raisins. So, I decided next tim Im just going to make the toast on the griddle, and place the apples on top as a garnish, and nix those pesky raisins! My house is still smelling yummy though!

I also made us a dessert, it was suppose to be chocolate dipped key lime popsicle's! Turns out, I forgot about the popsicle sticks, and also needed an aluminum pan! So, I did what any other girl would do, I made us a frozen key lime pie! I actually made homemade graham cracker crust! The filling was super easy (well except for the lime zest, my grater didn't do its job so I had to make shift by finely chopping the zest from the lime) I made a chocolate "frosting", which was suppose to be the dipping sauce, but I used it as frosting! I placed it in the freezer, and it turned out really well.  Im loving trying new things!

This was a really fun lupper to make :) Im excited about next weekend though,Im making one of my favorite meals EVER, but with a twist! I really hope it turns out, I've been blessed with no burnt foods, YET! (I'm keeping my fingers crossed) xoBritney

My Quirky Home {living room}

Sigh.
I thought I would blog a little about my house! This is my living room! The room that is the closest to being finished! I still have some pictures to put up! Which Im really excited about, because the frames are a little quirky and fun. For my living room I wanted it to feel really fresh and clean, and just airy! Our little cottage is just that, little! So, to make it feel "airy" can be tough! I decided to stick to bright semi-neutrals, such as white, off white and a light tan. Then, I needed a pop of color, because I needed it to reflect our personalities, which is fun! For my main bright, I decided on orange, but I have some accent brights too, like torquise, green, and (what I call) a burnt pink. This is a room that still needs work, but I hope you like the little peak into my home! By the way, writing a blog while your pup is bringing you toys, and trying to sit in your lap is difficult and hilarious!

Love.

I love this little spot. Especially our boots!
Aww there's a picture of us!

I spy a Puppy.

That basket is full of things to hang on my wall.

Quirky first try!

This past Friday I did a little cooking! I say a little, but it felt like a LOT! O my goodness, I was in the kitchen forever! Don't worry though, everything turned out great. (great for my first time) I decided to "give" the recipe of only one of the yummy things I made. So, here it goes! Have fun reading!!

On the menu was:
appetizer- Prosciutto, sage, and parmesan pinwheels
salad- Warm mushroom salad with ginger soy vinaigrette (getting fancy over here)
main dish- Mediterranean-style tuna
dessert- Samoa blondies

Now that we have that covered, I did the appetizer first! It was the easiest, and dare I say, my favorite, thing of the night! All I needed was to lay out my puff pastry, on a floured surface, of course. I rolled it out, to what I believed to be 11x14 inches.

Then I just spread a good amount of honey-mustard, laid out the ingredients, neatly in a row. The prosciutto (ok ok I couldn't find that, so I used canadian bacon!) sage, and parmesan, I also added some ground pepper. Then I rolled it up, placed it in the freezer for 30 min. After that I sliced it, put it in the oven on 350 degrees, for about 15-17 min.
They were so yummy!!!
I baked the blondies, while the pin wheels were in the freezer! I decided not to add as much coconut as the Newlywed Kitchen Cookbook called for, we aren't big fans over here! I loved the way they turned out! Super ooey-gooey too! I was surprised, I thought I would have burnt them!
They're all gone, and its only Sunday

mixing the vinaigrette
After this I made the warm mushroom salad, I actually loved this Japanese style salad! My husband, not so much! That was fine with me, that meant I got seconds. (more like thirds) The vinaigrette is what made it so delish. All it took was honey, soy sauce, ginger, rice vinegar, and green onion. I sautéed mushrooms to go on top of the salad greens, and ta-da, all done! It was super easy. Im learning I can do these things, and that cooking is actually easier than I thought! Who would have thought!

I then went to cooking the Mediterranean-style Tuna! This was the most tricky for me! First off, I couldn't find tuna at my local grocery store, so I used salmon instead. Then I noticed it called for ANCHOVIES! Yes, that little fish all claustrophobic in their itty-bitty container! I was a little nervous, but I decided to go for it! Ya'll should have seen me looking up and down the store for those little things! Who buys anchovies anyway? Ok, so Im home and cooking this salmon, in hot oil, on a frying pan, I go to flip it, and guess what happens? Thats right, it splatters all on my hand and dress! OUCH is all I can say. Cooking can be very dangerous. After the salmon was cooked, I did the topping. Which was, sundried tomatoes, anchovies, olives, olive oil, lemon juice, red pepper, prosciutto (um canadian bacon in my case), and artichoke hearts. YUM! I loved it, and Walt did too! The anchovies were not so bad, Alex (my labradoodle) loved them. :)
Alex, begging for food
All of the food actually turned out pretty decent, I was impressed with myself! I don't know if I will try this many new recipes all at once again, it took a lot of time, and Im thinking I might have bored someone with all this blogging! I hope I didn't, but if I did, stick with me! Im going to get better at this, I promise!

The spread

Close up!

Im making myself hungry, looking at this.
